Juma'an: the sector of businesswomen has many opportunities and obstacles as well.

In her lecture delivered in the Lecture Hall at the SCSS, Dr. Najat Juma'an, the Deputy Director of the Finance Institute at the Finance Ministry, and Supervisor on Businesswomen Department at the Consortium of Commerce Chambers, said that the Yemeni environment abounded with opportunities that were encouraging for the Yemeni women to become businesswomen but was beset by many challenges as well. Dr. Juma'an indicated that Yemen had many promising sectors, pointing to the sectors where women have achieved success such as education, health, agriculture, and agricultural marketing. The lecturer called on the Yemeni women who would like to engage in business enterprises to conduct feasibility studies and prepare accurate strategies for their projects should they want to achieve success. In this context, the first step a businesswoman should start with, according to Dr. Juma'an, is to study and evaluate the environment surrounding her, be it the internal environment concerning the management of the proposed project or the external one concerning the economic, political, cultural and social components.

According to the lecturer, some of the challenges facing businesswomen's enterprises are bureaucratic procedures, corruption, and nepotism, which raises the costs of the proposed projects. As regards the area of propaganda and advertisement, the businesswoman (Dr. Najat) is still reluctant to get involved in this business.
In her concluding remarks, the lecturer pointed to the attention and care paid to the sector of businesswomen on the part of the Consortium of Commerce Chambers, saying that now seven Chambers have women employees to represent the Yemeni businesswomen although it has been less than one year since this sector was established.
